Bar Description
An Atlantic City Legend Since 1927
If you want a true taste of Atlantic City’s soul, you skip the glitzy casino buffets and head straight to the corner of Atlantic and Brighton Avenues. Tony’s Baltimore Grill isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a living, breathing time capsule that has been the heartbeat of the city since Joseph Tarsitano first opened its doors in 1927. Originally a seafood joint sourcing its bounty from Baltimore (hence the name), it evolved into an Italian-American institution when Joseph’s son, Tony, returned from WWII and introduced the city to its very first “tomato pie.”
Why We Love It
Walking into Tony’s is like stepping into a classic noir film—but with better smells. You’re greeted by vintage wood paneling, red vinyl booths, and individual jukeboxes that still invite you to pick a tune. The atmosphere is unpretentious, gritty, and gloriously “old school.” It’s the kind of place where high rollers and locals sit side-by-side at the famous 24-hour bar, which has been a sanctuary for casino workers and night owls for decades.
The Menu Stars:
-
The Pizza: A world-famous 12-inch pan pizza with a thin, crispy-yet-chewy crust. For the ultimate experience, try the sausage—it’s put on the pie raw and cooked to perfection for 20 minutes.
-
Spaghetti & Meatballs: Hearty, hand-rolled, and exactly like your nonna used to make.
-
Fried Shrimp: A nod to the original Baltimore roots, these are a local favorite served with legendary cocktail sauce.
-
The “Secret” Spaghetti Pizza: Lore says this double-dough beast was once off-menu, but now it’s a must-try conversation piece.
Tony’s was famously a favorite of the late Anthony Bourdain, who called it a “taste of my youth.” Whether you’re there for a 3 AM beer or a Sunday family dinner, Tony’s Baltimore Grill remains the undisputed heavyweight champion of Atlantic City traditions.

1 Review on “Tonys Baltimore Grill”
Great pizza. Historic. Should check it out once if you can. If you need a cigarette vending machine, this is your place. Hasn’t been updated since God knows when. I would assume any updates would trigger bringing things up to code and at that point, its cheaper to knock the place down and start over. Can’t be any heavier than 115lb to fit through the bathroom door. Been here several times in my life, however the last time I didn’t even sit down and stay. It was raining and walking in there was such a stench of sewer I couldn’t even breathe. I looked around at a packed bar and nobody seemed to even notice. I asked the bartender if I was crazy or if that smell was in my head. He assured me every time it rains since “Sandy”, it gets a little funky.
I just couldn’t.
