Bar Description
If you went to Rowan University or lived in Gloucester County anytime in the last two decades, you know “Landy.” Located right on the edge of campus at 1 Mullica Hill Road, Landmark Americana Tap & Grill is a massive venue that has served as a rite of passage for thousands of students. But for the rest of us looking for a solid drink and a bite to eat, it’s a bit of a chameleon.
Depending on when you visit, Landmark is either a laid-back sports bar perfect for watching the Eagles game or a high-energy nightclub that will make you feel old if you’re over 25.
The Atmosphere Honesty time: If you are looking for a quiet, intimate cocktail hour, do not come here on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night after 9:00 PM. That is when the college crowd takes over, the DJ starts spinning, and the line to get in can wrap around the building. However, during the day and early evening, Landmark is a surprisingly spacious and comfortable spot to grab lunch or dinner. The venue is huge, with plenty of booths, high-tops, and a large central bar that offers great sightlines for sports.
The History (and The Comeback) Landmark has been a staple in Glassboro for years, but it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. The location faced significant challenges and scrutiny in 2019 and 2020. However, in late 2021, the Ciconte’s Restaurant Group—the same local powerhouse behind Village Pub and Cinder Bar—took over operations. This ownership change was a major turning point. The food quality saw an immediate uptick, and the operations tightened up significantly. You can now expect the same professional level of service and kitchen consistency found at their other locations, which is a huge win for local diners.
The Drinks Since this is DrinkSJ, let’s talk about the bar. Landmark boasts an impressive tap list with over 30 beers on draft. You aren’t just getting Miller Lite here (though they have plenty of that); you’ll find legitimate craft options like Cape May IPA, Victory Storm King Stout, Dogfish Head, and Kane Head High.
For the cocktail crowd, they lean into fun, high-volume drinks. Their “Fishbowls” were legendary, but the current menu focuses on their infamous “Trash Cans”—a potent mix of vodka, gin, rum, triple sec, blue curacao, and Red Bull that is practically a jagged little pill of nostalgia for anyone who partied in the 2000s. They also serve “Crushes” and seasonal mules that are surprisingly well-made.
The Food Thanks to the Ciconte’s influence, the menu is far better than “college bar” standards. The Smash Bourbon Burger is legitimate, and their Wings (available smoked, fried, or grilled) are some of the best in the area. A standout item you might recognize from their sister restaurants is the “Eat Your Broccoli” Flatbread, loaded with garlic confit, roasted broccoli, and fresh ricotta. It’s arguably the best thing on the menu.
The Verdict Walk into Landmark Americana on a Sunday afternoon for wings and a craft beer, and you’ll have a great experience at a well-run sports bar. Walk in on “Thirsty Thursday,” and you’re joining a college party. Choose your adventure wisely.
