Bar Description
If youโre looking for the ultimate community vibe in the heart of historic downtown Mount Holly, you have to pull up a seat at The Local Eatery & Pub. This place isn’t just a bar; itโs a love letter to New Jersey. Founded by Derek Little and Callum Satchellโtwo seasoned pros with over 40 years of combined industry experienceโThe Local opened its doors in 2016 in a stunning two-story building that practically breathes history. The exposed red brick dates back to the late 1800s, giving the whole place a cozy, authentic warmth thatโs hard to find these days.
Features & Ambiance
The Vibe: The first floor houses an intimate, high-energy bar area thatโs always buzzing with locals. If youโre looking for something a bit more refined, head upstairs to their Whiskey Lounge, where you can sink into brown leather Chesterfield sofas and enjoy a world-class “Speakeasy” atmosphere. For larger groups, the second floor also offers a spacious dining area with rustic touches like brown paper-covered tablesโperfect for a relaxed but elevated night out.
Craft Beer & Cocktails: The beverage program here is a standout. They are absolutely dedicated to the “Local” name, featuring 16 rotating draft lines primarily focused on the best New Jersey craft breweries (think Kane, Spellbound, and Tonewood). Their hand-crafted cocktail list adds clever twists to the classics, like the Strawberry Mule made with white rum and fresh muddled berries. They even have a “take-out fridge” stocked with local craft cans so you can take the experience home.
Gastro-Pub Fare: The food is what really keeps people coming back. Weโre talking “Americana with a twist.” You cannot leave without trying the Wisconsin Fried Cheese Curds (served with vodka sauce!) or their legendary Dry Aged Burger, which is a 30-day aged masterpiece topped with Cooper Sharp cheese. Other fan favorites include the Short Rib Grilled Cheese, Nashville Hot Chicken, and their perfectly roasted fingerling potatoes with candied bacon.
History
The building itself has always been a staple of Mount Holly’s culinary scene. Long-time locals will remember it as the former home of the High Street Grill, which closed in 2014. When Little and Satchell took over, they were careful to preserve the historic soul of the space while injecting a modern, craft-focused energy that has turned it into the premier destination it is today
