Bar Description
If you are looking for the ultimate industrial-cool hangout in the Wildwoods, MudHen Brewing Company is a mandatory stop. Occupying nearly an entire city block on Rio Grande Avenue, this massive brewpub transformed a run-down Harley Davidson dealership into a world-class destination for craft beer and elevated comfort food. Since opening in 2018, it has become the heartbeat of Wildwoodโs year-round social scene, offering an expansive, multi-level experience that feels both historic and cutting-edge.
The history of MudHen is a tribute to the “I think I can” attitude of the Jersey Shore. The brewery is named after the West Jersey Railroad train of 1883, which chugged through marshlands to bring the first pleasure-seekers to “Five Mile Island.” Because the tracks were often washed out at high tide, locals nicknamed the resilient train “The MudHen.” Today, owner and Wildwood native Brendan Sciarra has channeled that same hardworking spirit into a venue that conducts a “history lesson in every sip.”
Features & Ambiance
MudHen is designed for every type of enthusiast. The Main Dining Room is a light-filled industrial space where you can peek through large glass windows into the brewing facility to watch Head Brewer Tony Cunha at work. If you prefer a more relaxed vibe, head to the Upstairs Lounge, featuring retro couches, a cozy fireplace, and a private bar.
The menu at MudHen is “award-winning” for a reason. While their 1883 IPA and Wildwood Haze are staples for beer lovers, the kitchen delivers “culinary knockouts” including signature Creamy Mac & Cheese Skillets, smoked BBQ ribs, and giant burgers. They even offer a Saturday and Sunday Brunch that has become a local favorite. Whether youโre a craft beer connoisseur or a family looking for a great meal, MudHen offers destination relaxation at its finest.
