Bar Description
If you’re looking for the spot that fundamentally changed the social landscape of Pitman, look no further than Merryman’s Pub. Located in the absolute heart of downtown, Merryman’s holds the prestigious title of being the first restaurant in Pitman to serve alcohol since the town was established as a “dry” Methodist retreat.
The venue is a masterclass in historic preservation. It is housed in the grand Pitman National Bank building, originally constructed in 1911 (some records cite 1907). After sitting vacant for over 20 years and lacking even a floor, locals Bill Merryman and Vito Mannino (of the nearby Mannino’s Cucina Italiana) embarked on a massive restoration project. They saved the building from potential demolition, rebuilding the interior from the ground up while meticulously preserving the original granite walls, mammoth columns, and soaring ceilings. When it finally opened in 2020, it didn’t just open a bar; it brought a landmark back to life.
Features & Ambiance
Inside, the vibe is “Modern-Historic English Pub.” You’ll find cozy lighting, a beautiful long bar, and even a signature red British telephone booth that has become a favorite photo op for guests.
The menu is a “from-scratch” powerhouse focusing on creative American-European pub fare. Enthusiasts frequently point to the Guinness Short Rib Pot Pie, the Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese, and their famous Chicken Pickle Sandwich. If you’re a burger fan, their “juicy burgers” are a staple of the downtown dining scene.
