Bar Description
If youโve been wondering what would become of the legendary Madison Pub space on Lafayette Street, the answer has arrived with a loud, enthusiastic oink. The Flying Pig Tavern & Tap has taken over this historic Riverside venue, injecting a massive dose of modern energy into one of the town’s most cherished gathering spots. While the “Madison” name still graces the event side of the building, the tavern itself has been completely reborn as a vibrant, community-focused gastropub that feels both fresh and instantly familiar.
The history of this location is palpableโfor decades, it was the go-to “corner bar” for locals. The Flying Pig team (who also operate a popular location in Bordentown) has respected that legacy while upgrading the experience. The vibe is now “rustic-industrial meets neighborhood party,” with a layout designed for everything from watching the Eagles game to a casual Tuesday night dinner with the family.
Features & Highlights
The menu is a serious step up from standard pub grub, focusing on high-quality ingredients and bold flavors. You absolutely must start with their signature Bang Bang Shrimp or Bang Bang Cauliflowerโboth are crispy, spicy, and addictive. The kitchen also prides itself on its “Flying Pig Pizza,” a spicy, meat-heavy pie loaded with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and asiago cheese that pairs perfectly with a cold beer.
Speaking of beer, the Draft List currently has a few mid tier crafts on it. They feature a rotating selection of 12 beers on tap, with a strong emphasis on New Jersey breweries like Kane Brewing (Head High is a staple), Bolero Snort, and Swedesboro Brewing.
If you aren’t a beer drinker, their “Spirits Bar” offers a solid selection of wines and creative cocktails, along with a heavy rotation of popular canned favorites like High Noon and Surfside Iced Teas. Whether you are sitting at the spacious bar or grabbing a table in the dining room, the atmosphere is loud, friendly, and exactly what a local tavern should be.

1 Review on “Flying Pig Tavern & Tap”
This area has so few good places to go for food and drinks. The former Madison has been inhabited by flying pigs, and I am not mad about it! Great food, drinks and atmosphere. Will be put in rotation as a go-to in the area. They even served wine in frosted glasses. It’s like being at the country club!
