Bar Description
Nucky’s Kitchen & Speakeasy
If you want to step out of the modern world and into the glitz and grit of the Roaring Twenties, Nucky’s Kitchen & Speakeasy is your destination. Located in the heart of Ventnor City, this venue is a masterclass in atmospheric dining. It serves as the culinary heartbeat of the beautifully restored Ventnor Square Theatre, a historic building that originally opened in 1922 and sat shuttered for nearly two decades before its grand 2021 revival.
Named after the legendary Atlantic City political boss Enoch “Nucky” Johnson (immortalized in Boardwalk Empire), Nucky’s offers two distinct experiences. Upstairs, the Dining Room feels like an exclusive Gatsby-style retreat with high ceilings, projections on the walls, and a view of the bustling open kitchen. Downstairs, the Speakeasy is a cozy, low-lit den with exposed brick, velvet curtains, and windows that open right onto Ventnor Avenue for a breezy, indoor-outdoor feel.
Features & Ambiance
-
The Vibe: Pure 1920s nostalgia. Expect crystal-cut glassware, red carnations, and checks delivered in vintage cigar boxes.
-
The Food: A creative “evolving menu” that blends high-end gastropub fare with Italian family recipes. Enthusiasts rave about the Drunken Mussels (steamed in beer and butter), the Nucky Burger (topped with a fried egg and applewood bacon), and the velvet-smooth Penne alla Vodka.
-
The Drinks: Two exciting bars serve up era-appropriate libations. Must-tries include the Bees Knees (gin, honey, lemon) and the Great Gatsby (ginger-spiced whiskey and bitters).
-
Entertainment: This is a true Live Music Bar. You’ll find talent performing almost every night, ranging from smooth jazz and acoustic duos to stand-up comedy on select evenings.

1 Review on “Nucky's Kitchen & Speakeasy”
Newer place in a town that had no bars, put in a building that was abandoned for years. Excellent vibe. Smaller bar downstairs. Can get loud, but would recommend checking this place out.
