Bar Description
If you’re looking for the spot where “Atlantic City meets Some Guys from Philly,” you’ve found it at Moments at Scannicchio’s. Tucked away in the Ducktown neighborhood on Fairmount Avenue, this isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a high-energy transition from a classic South Philly Italian eatery to a vibrant nightlife destination. This hidden gem feels like a throwback to the Prohibition era—a cozy, “hole-in-the-wall” warehouse space where the lighting is dim, the service is personal, and the vibe is electric.
The history here is rooted in the legendary Scannicchio’s name. Founder John Varalli and Executive Chef Omar Castro Lucas have brought the authentic, homey Italian flavors that made their Philadelphia location a staple to the Jersey shore. Since its opening, Moments has quickly carved out a reputation for being the “un-casino” destination—offering a lack of pretension and a level of hospitality that makes you feel like family the moment you walk in.
Features & Highlights
The culinary experience is unapologetically “Old School South Philly.” The menu is anchored by fan favorites like the Eggplant Tower, Fried Meatballs (which regulars swear taste just like grandmom’s), and the Pollo Bianco. If you’re a seafood fan, the Stuffed Calamari Fra Diavolo and the Seafood Scannicchio—loaded with crab, mussels, clams, and lobster—are absolute showstoppers.
But the “Moments” magic truly happens after the dinner rush. Around 10:00 PM, the atmosphere shifts: tables are cleared, the bar lights up, and the space transforms. With a mix of Live Bands, DJs, and a Jukebox network, the party kicks into high gear. The bar program is just as serious as the kitchen, featuring a standout Smoked Old Fashioned and a Violently Shaken Martini with blue-cheese stuffed olives that enthusiasts rave about. It’s loud, it’s tight, it’s often packed, and it’s arguably the best authentic Italian party in Atlantic City.

1 Review on “Moments At Scannicchios”
A real hidden gem. Food in incredible. Seriously some of the best I have had in recent years. The just recently took over and opened the space next-door for additional bar/seating. The original side was crammed back with tables elbow to elbow with strangers, but the food was so good you didn’t even mind. Make reservations during the summer season for sure. You won’t be disappointed.
