Bar Description
If you are looking for the undisputed champion of sports bars in South Jersey, look no further than P.J. Whelihan’s in Washington Township. Located on the bustling Cross Keys Road in Sewell, this spot is more than just a local watering holeโitโs a rite of passage for any true dining and bar enthusiast in the area.
First and foremost, letโs talk about the wings. P.J. Whelihan’s has a storied history with the wing game, serving as the official wing provider for Philadelphiaโs legendary “Wing Bowl” for years. Their jumbo wings are famous for a reasonโcrispy, juicy, and doused in one of their signature sauces (the Hot ‘n Honey is a certified classic). But the menu goes far beyond just wings. Whether youโre craving a half-pound “PJโs Burger” topped with Vermont cheddar and caramelized onions, their addictively seasoned “Famous Fries” with Old Bay and melted cheese sauce, or a fresh fire-grilled salmon for something lighter, the kitchen consistently delivers top-tier American pub fare.
For the thirsty traveler, P.J.’s is an absolute oasis. The bar boasts an impressive arsenal of 53 draft lines, featuring a rotating selection of local craft brews, macro favorites, and their very own signature “PJW Copper Lager” brewed by Victory Brewing Company.
The atmosphere is electric, especially on game days. With walls lined with high-definition TVs, there is literally not a bad seat in the house to catch the Eagles, Phillies, or Flyers. If you prefer fresh air with your pint, their spacious, enclosed back patioโcomplete with its own outdoor barโis one of the best all-weather hangouts in the township.
History: The P.J. Whelihan’s legacy began in 1983 when founder Bob Platzer opened his first restaurant, “Platz’s,” in the Poconos. In 1994, he launched the first P.J. Whelihan’s in Allentown, PA, naming it in honor of his grandfather to pay tribute to family tradition. Over the last three decades, the PJW Restaurant Group has grown into a Delaware Valley powerhouse, with the Washington Township location standing out as a flagship neighborhood favorite that perfectly blends the history of a classic pub with the energy of a modern sports bar.

1 Review on “Pj Whelihans – Washington Township”
We like coming to the Washington township location but it is always crowded. Most weekends you can’t find a parking spot. However when we do get to find a spot the food and service is always good. The nachos are huge and very good. I like the the chicken cheese stakes. I normally get one of their specialty cocktails and I like that they change those often.
