Bar Description
For a venue that perfectly captures the evolving spirit of the Jersey Shore, The Ludlam Hotel & Ludlam Bar & Grill (incorporating the legacy of the LaCosta Beach Bar) is an absolute standout. Situated on the iconic corner of Landis Avenue and JFK Boulevardโthe gateway to Sea Isle Cityโthis establishment is far more than just a place to grab a drink; it is a multi-generational landmark currently in the midst of an exciting transformation.
Features & Ambiance
The vibe at The Ludlam Bar & Grill is the definition of “casual-cool.” It is a massive, indoor-outdoor coastal haven that effortlessly bridges the gap between a family-friendly restaurant and a high-energy nightlife destination. Enthusiasts rave about the spacious outdoor seating, which can accommodate over 170 guests and serves as the perfect sun-soaked perch for people-watching.
When it comes to entertainment, The Ludlam is the heartbeat of the island. Throughout the summer, you can find live music daily, usually from 5 PM to 9 PM, featuring everything from acoustic sets to upbeat local bands. Foodies will appreciate the menu’s creative take on American shore classicsโthink signature Beach Town Tacos (beer-battered haddock or ahi tuna), artisanal pizzas, and fresh salad selections. A unique perk is the on-site Shorebreak Cafe, a “made-from-scratch” bakery and coffee shop where you can grab a morning pastry or a late-night treat.
A Storied History
The history of this corner is deep-rooted. The land itself traces back to the 17th century when Joseph Ludlam purchased the barrier island (hence the name Ludlam Island). Long before it was The Ludlam, the site hosted historic staples like the Bellevue Hotel and Croneckerโs Hotel & Restaurant.
Most notably, from 1972 until 2021, the corner was home to the legendary LaCosta Lounge, a throwback nightclub that hosted 50 years of “Sunday Fundays” and late-night debauchery for generations of shore-goers. In 2021, the site was revitalized by Shorebreak Resorts, rebranding as The Ludlam. While the original structures were demolished in late 2024 to make way for a state-of-the-art, upscale boutique resort (expected to open in 2026), the “Ludlam” brand continues to honor its roots as a cornerstone of the Sea Isle experience.
