Bar Description
If youโre looking for the ultimate “Jersey Shore Tradition,” look no further than The Ocean Drive, affectionately known by locals as simply The OD. Located at the corner of 40th and Landis, this iconic white building has been the heartbeat of Sea Isle Cityโs nightlife and dining scene for generations. Walking into The OD feels like stepping into a storied piece of shore history that has mastered the art of “Fun, Friends, and Music.”
The history of the building is staggering, dating all the way back to 1885 when it first opened as a hotel called the Philadelphia House. It was transformed into the Ocean Drive in the 1940s and evolved into its current entertainment-focused powerhouse in the mid-1980s. Whether youโre trudgeing in straight from the sand for a legendary No Shower Happy Hour or dressing up for a night of dancing, The OD delivers an unpretentious, high-energy vibe that keeps people coming back decade after decade.
Features & Highlights
The OD is essentially two experiences in one. Inside, youโll find a classic, high-volume tavern that transforms into a premier Nightclub with a massive dance floor, stage, and state-of-the-art light show. For over 30 years, the band Secret Service has been a centerpiece here, alongside other regional heavy hitters like Go Go Gadjet and the always-popular Dueling Pianos.
Step outside and youโre at The Sandbar & Grill, the venue’s casual outdoor bar and restaurant. Itโs the perfect spot to catch a breeze and a bite. The menu is far beyond your average pub fare. Enthusiasts rave about the OD Special Hot Roast Beef (topped with caramelized onions, hot cherry peppers, and provolone), as well as the Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and fresh Fish Tacos. For the beer lover, there is a solid selection of craft brews on tap to accompany their signature frozen drinks. Itโs a versatile spot where you can catch a game on the outdoor TVs or enjoy live acoustic music during the day before the party ramps up after dark.
Open daily from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. They also host special “Off-Season” events for New Yearโs Eve, the Sea Isle Presidentโs Day Weekend (Polar Bear Plunge), and select spring weekends.
