Bar Description
If youโre craving the salt-air charm of New England without the three-hour drive, Marblehead Chowder House in Westampton is your local port of call. Taking over the spot formerly occupied by the long-standing Charlie Brownโs Steakhouse, this venue has been meticulously renovated into a spacious, nautical-themed retreat. It captures a “casual, coastal, and cozy” aesthetic that makes it feel less like a Jersey roadside stop and more like a seaside tavern in Marblehead Harbor.
The history of the concept dates back to 1996 in Easton, PA, where the original location was born from a snowy day vision at a harbor-side bar called โThe Barnacle.โ The Westampton location, which opened in May 2023, is the second outpost for owners Paul Tsiknakis (who also owns the Red Lion and Monarch diners) and his partners. Theyโve brought over 27 years of seafood expertise to Burlington County, creating a destination that is always bustling with families and seafood enthusiasts.
Features & Ambiance
The interior is expansive, seating up to 330 guests, yet the clever use of lighthouses, rustic wood accents, and nautical dรฉcor keeps the vibe intimate. The rustic 20-seat bar is a highlight for the “after-work” or “late-night” crowd, featuring 12 beer tapsโmany of which rotate to showcase local New Jersey craft breweries.
The Menu: The food is undeniably the star here. As the name suggests, the New England-style Chowders and stews are award-winning. Youโll find authentic coastal staples rarely seen in this area, like Ipswich Belly Clams (steamers) and butter-poached Lobster Rolls. Other fan favorites include their signature jumbo lump crab cakes, fresh oysters from the raw bar, and the over-the-top Bloody Mary that can come garnished with a whole shrimp cocktail.
Events & Entertainment: Marblehead isn’t just about dining; itโs a community hub. The weekly schedule is packed with popular events:
-
Live Music Mondays
-
Buck-A-Shuck Tuesdays (for the oyster lovers)
-
Quizzo/Trivia Thursdays
Whether you are there for a “Blue Plate” lunch special or a celebratory seafood feast, Marblehead delivers high-quality “coastal comfort” with a side of local hospitality.
